BUILDING A SMARTER CITY FOR THE FUTURE 

Support & advocate for:

  • A rebate scheme for sustainable building initiatives, to reduce the impact on public infrastructure and utilities, i.e.  stormwater retention, solar panels and rainwater collection.

  • Streamlining of consenting and permit processes to reduce red tape, costs and delays.

  • Development of an aquatic and recreation centre in the Whau.

  • Progression and implementation of the New Lynn Urban Plan including a new youth facility.


Transport

GET WHAU MOVING

  • Te Whau Pathway and a connection link to the New Lynn to Avondale shared path.

  • Improvements to footpaths and walkways, and connecting cycleways and walkways.

  • Roading and safety improvements in Rosebank Peninsula to improve freight movement.

Support & advocate for:

  • Development of the Avondale-Southdown rail line to unlock better east-west transport connections.

  • Development of a multi-storey Park & Ride facility in New Lynn.

  • More frequent public transport and better feeder services to transport hubs.

  • Improving our roads and decreasing traffic congestion.


Rates and spending

do more with less

  • Support minimal rates increases in line with inflation.

  • Improving the transparency and accountability of Council spending.

Support & advocate for:

  • Local contractors to improve service levels for council operations and maintenance, to support local businesses and drive costs down.

  • Reduction in Council debt levels and lowering the debt ceiling to reduce the burden on future generations.


Town centres and local economy

BREATHING FRESH LIFE INTO OUR CENTRES

  • Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) to improve local employment opportunities and foster economic growth.

  • Improved CCTV networks to increase safety, support local businesses and town centre vibrancy.

Support & advocate for:

  • Unlock Avondale development, multi-purpose community facility and town centre revitalisation.

  • Initiatives that improve the aesthetics of town centres and create vibrant community hubs, i.e. activity spaces, enhanced lighting, increased maintenance.


Environment

CREATING A MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WHAU

  • Improving our stormwater and wastewater network to protect our beaches and parks.

  • Local community-driven pest and weed management.

  • Build on the Industrial Pollution Prevention Programs to help protect the Whau river.

Support & advocate for:

  • Retain green space at the Avondale Racecourse.

  • Separated waste collection in public areas, and increased recycling education and resource recovery.

  • Increase planting of trees in parks and streets and support canopy cover growth.


Community, arts and culture

CELEBRATING OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITIES

  • Community organisations celebrating their local identity and improving the Whau.

Support & advocate for:

  • Growing local events through funding and reducing barriers for vendors and organisers.

  • Shared community edible gardens and neighbourhood pantries.
